AMSTERDAM/ On July 14, volunteers from the New Generation Foundation and promoters from CubaDecide gathered in front of the Peace Palace in The Hague to commemorate the anniversary of the popular protests in Cuba on July 11, 2021. This significant event aimed to honor the courage of those who participated in the protests and to draw international attention to ongoing human rights violations in Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua.
Victor M. Duenas, the president of the New Generation Foundation, addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of remembering the protests and their impact. “It is crucial to keep the memory of these brave individuals alive,” Duenas said. “We are here to honor the thousands of victims of these oppressive regimes, including those who have been forced to abandon their countries in search of safety and freedom.”
The event also aimed to shed light on the severe situation faced by children in Venezuela. Speakers highlighted the dire conditions, including lack of access to basic necessities, education, and healthcare, which have left countless children in vulnerable situations. The demonstrators called for urgent international intervention to alleviate the suffering of these innocent victims and to address the root causes of the crisis.
In addition to commemorating the Cuban protests and highlighting the plight of Venezuelan children, the gathering served as a platform to denounce the repressive regimes in Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua. Participants shared personal stories and testimonies, illustrating the harsh realities faced by those living under these governments. They called for global solidarity and support in the fight for democracy and human rights in these regions.
The peaceful demonstration in front of the Peace Palace was a poignant reminder of the ongoing struggles for freedom and justice in Latin America. It underscored the need for continuous international attention and action to support those suffering under oppressive regimes. The volunteers and promoters vowed to continue their advocacy, working tirelessly to bring about change and to ensure that the voices of the oppressed are heard.
The event concluded with a moment of silence to honor the victims of these regimes, followed by a call to action for the international community to stand in solidarity with the people of Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua. The demonstrators expressed hope that through continued efforts and global support, lasting change can be achieved, and the rights and freedoms of individuals in these countries can be restored.
