Government of the Plurinational State of Bolivia
The Bolivian authorities confirmed this Saturday (03.13.2021) that the former interim president of the country, Jeanine Áñez, was transferred to La Paz in a Hercules plane of the Bolivian Air Force, under a strong security deployment, after having been detained in Trinidad, departmental capital of Beni. The policy was referred to the headquarters of the Special Force to Fight Crime (FELCC), where she spent the night.
Her capture, which occurred in the early hours of the morning, was justified by the Minister of the Government, Eduardo Del Castillo, who ruled out any type of political persecution. “We have carried out, as the laws and the Constitution mandate, the arrest warrant in a process that has followed its entire course and it will be the judicial authorities that continue the investigation and determine the situation of the detained persons,” he said.
However, other information, including from the former president herself, assures that what is happening is a political persecution initiated by the Bolivian government, led by the Movement for Socialism (MAS). This occurs after the electoral fraud committed by Evo Morales, former President of Bolivia to stay in power in 2019.
That is why our Foundation rejects in the strongest terms the persecution against political actors; Likewise, we call on the international community to pressure the Bolivian Government so that it respects the dissidence and the opposition of that country and that they have all the necessary guarantees.
